Displeased with the rising number of deaths resulting from the fashionable practice of dueling, Scottish Fencing Master Sir William Hope created A New Shorter Method of Self-Defense. Hope’s “new” system, based upon contemporary German techniques, focused heavily on defensive strategies, imploring students to attack only if and when it was absolutely necessary.

In this three hour seminar Instructors Peter Haas and Kat Hamilton of Kollektiv des Messerfectens provide a well rounded introduction to Sir Hope’s New Method, and the art of dueling.

Prerequisites

This workshop is open to students of all levels, no previous experience with HEMA or fencing required!

While no experience is necessary for participation, please review the gear requirements.

There is a minimum amount of gear required to safely participate in our workshop:

• A fencing mask
• Gorget
• lightly padded fencing gloves
• Chest protector
• A light fencing jacket is highly recommended

If you do not currently own a piece of equipment, it can be purchased from a variety of sources such as Zen Warrior Armory or Purpleheart. If you have any questions regarding equipment, please don’t hesitate to reach out to us directly via e-mail or Discord.

Important Note: If you do not have the appropriate gear for the workshop, you will not be allowed to fully participate in active drills or fencing scenarios.
